The Educational Theatre Association honored 16 people this year whose work has made an extraordinary impact on theater education — and one of them works in Chesterfield County Public Schools! For winning the Emerging Theatre Educator Award, let’s give a standing ovation to Elizabeth Davis Middle drama teacher Julie Rose. She joined Chesterfield County Public Schools in 2022 after graduating from Longwood University.
Rose directs two student shows each year (“Legally Blonde the Musical Jr.” was this spring’s production).
The Emerging Theatre Educator Award is presented annually to a graduate student, preservice teacher or early-career theater educator who demonstrates innovation, service and impact in advancing theater education in schools and communities.
“These award recipients represent the very best of what theater education makes possible,” said Jay Gerlach of the Educational Theatre Association. “They are creating spaces where students grow in confidence, creativity, collaboration and empathy. From classrooms to communities across the country, their leadership and dedication ensure theater remains a powerful and essential part of every student’s education.”
