Dr. Lisa High has been named deputy superintendent for Chesterfield County Public Schools, effective Jan. 27. She will assume the role previously held by Dr. John Murray, who was recently appointed superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools.
Dr. High joined Chesterfield County Public Schools in 2019 as chief of schools. In that role, she led the CCPS Division of School Leadership and Support Services. That includes supervising all principals; analyzing academic performance of schools; providing student support services (counselors, social workers, psychologists, etc.); working to create a culture of equity and excellence; and challenging the school improvement team and instructional team to close achievement gaps.
“Dr. High brings a breadth of expertise to the role of deputy superintendent,” Dr. Murray said. “Her experiences have more than equipped her to ably serve in this new capacity. Beyond all of this, I have developed a deep respect and rapport with and for Dr. High during her tenure in Chesterfield schools. The continuity this transition will provide will prove incredibly valuable as such continuity establishes greater organizational stability.”
Dr. High began her career as a teacher in Albemarle County Public Schools (1992-98). She served in Spotsylvania County Public Schools (1999-2007) as assistant principal then principal. She worked in Falls Church City Public Schools (2007-19) as human resources director, assistant superintendent for curriculum innovation and personnel, chief academic officer and assistant superintendent for equity and capital programming.
Dr. High earned her bachelor’s degree from James Madison University, her master’s degree from the University of Virginia and her doctorate from Walden University. She also earned certification as a human resources specialist from Michigan State University.
