IEP mangement system is changing #
CCPS is changing its Individualized Education Program management system from VA IEP to EduPoint’s Synergy Special Education. The school division is returning to Synergy after careful consideration of the efficiency of the system and the benefits to students with disabilities and their families. CCPS access to VA IEP is no longer available; however, the special education department will provide families with guidance, support and resources to access the parent portal through ParentVUE when that service becomes available.
Jobs that matter #
Chesterfield County Public Schools is hiring teachers, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, administrators, classroom aides and many other positions. Every available job is posted on the school system website. Working in public education makes a difference now — and for years to come in the lives of Chesterfield County students.
Special education survey #
Each school year, the Virginia Department of Education is required to report to the U.S. Department of Education the percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities. This information is collected through the Indicator 8 Survey.
Families who have a child with a disability that receives special education services through an Individualized Education Program are asked to complete this survey before Dec. 15, 2023. Families who have more than one child with an IEP should complete the survey for each child.
Get required vaccines for school #
Vaccine requirements for incoming kindergartners #
The Virginia Department of Health has shared flyers in English and Spanish regarding required vaccines for students starting kindergarten. Documentation of vaccines must be provided to your school before a student may start school. Learn more about kindergarten registration on the division website.
Vaccine requirements for rising seventh graders #
There are some vaccines that students must have before entering seventh grade. Last year, many people had challenges in late summer getting appointments in time for the start of school. Your student may not be able to start school on time if they do not have required immunizations.
Virginia students are required to get these vaccines before entering seventh grade:
- Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap): The Tdap vaccine is required by law for all students entering seventh grade.
- Meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY): Students are required to have one dose of MenACWY vaccine before entering seventh grade.
- Human papillomavirus (HPV): The HPV vaccine is required by law for students entering seventh grade. After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent/guardian may elect for their student not to receive the HPV vaccine with no additional paperwork required by Chesterfield County Public Schools. Ask your health-care provider about the benefits of the HPV vaccine.
You can fulfill these vaccine requirements now and mark this item off the back-to-school to-do list. Make a wellness appointment with your health-care provider. Additionally, the Chesterfield County Health Department offers immunizations by appointment only for children age 18 and younger. To schedule an appointment, call 804-768-7454.
Vaccine requirements for rising high school seniors #
There are some vaccines that students must have before entering 12th grade. Your student may not be able to start school on time if they do not have required immunizations. Virginia students must meet the following vaccine requirement before entering 12th grade:
- A minimum of two doses of meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY) vaccine are required by law before students enter 12th grade. The first dose should be administered before entering seventh grade. The final dose should be administered before entering 12th grade (given on or after the 16th birthday). Meningococcal vaccines help protect against the bacteria that cause meningococcal disease.

July 26 is deadline for openings on advisory committees #
School Board advisory committee members are appointed from each of the county’s five magisterial districts and include parents, teachers, staff members, students and others interested in helping Chesterfield County Public Schools achieve its vision of creating a better tomorrow. Advisory committee members who are appointed by the School Board must reside in the district they represent. Next school year #
It’s summer break now, but back-to-school preparations are underway.
- Children entering kindergarten this fall or older students who are new to Chesterfield County need to register as soon as possible with Chesterfield County Public Schools. The school system website provides registration information, including a find-my-school widget.
- July 17 is the first day of the 2023-24 school year for Bellwood and Falling Creek elementary schools, which follow a year-round calendar.
- Aug. 21 is the first day of the 2023-24 school year for all other schools in Chesterfield County.
- Up-to-date calendars in English and in Spanish are posted on the school system’s website.
Middle and high school families: Take advantage of free tutoring this summer #
Tutoring will remain available throughout the summer. Chesterfield County Public Schools is offering free online tutoring services for students in middle and high school via Stride Tutoring. Head to oneccps.org/tutors to get started:
- Students can reserve time for online video meetings with tutors licensed in subject areas in which they need additional support.
- Students and families select a tutor based on expertise and availability to fit your schedule, with tutoring available in the evenings and on weekends.
- Students do not need a teacher referral to schedule a tutoring session.
- There is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions at this time. Tutoring is being offered to provide an additional tool to help secondary students succeed.
- There is no cost to students/families. To provide this service, Chesterfield County Public Schools is using federal ESSER funds provided to address the impact of COVID-19 on schools.
Free meals for children this summer #
Through the summer meals program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, children can receive free breakfasts and lunches at sites throughout Chesterfield County. Please note that meals must be eaten on site.
- On a first come, first served basis, free breakfast and lunch will be available to all children ages 1-18.
- Texting “food” or “comida” to 304-304 provides information about nearby meal sites.
- If you have questions, call Chesterfield Food and Nutrition Services at 804-743-3717.
These sites will offer free meals Mondays through Thursdays June 26-July 20 (closed on July 4) unless other days/dates are specified here:

Free lunches for children at Chesterfield Farmers Market #
On summer Wednesdays, the Food and Nutrition Services Department of Chesterfield County Public Schools will provide free lunches to children at the Chesterfield Farmers Market. All children younger than 18 are eligible to receive a lunch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesdays from June 28 through Aug. 9 at the market, which takes place at 6701 Mimms Loop in the Chesterfield County government complex. There’s no need to RSVP; the first 75 children to arrive will receive a free lunch to eat on site. This is a new initiative for Food and Nutrition Services, which plans to partner with local growers to include local ingredients and offer nutrition education. Call 804-743-3717 for more information.
