School calendars for Feb. 20-21 #
- Schools and school offices will be closed Feb. 20 for Presidents Day.Â
- Also, students will be out of school Feb. 21 in order to accommodate county election activities. Many Chesterfield County schools are polling places. Feb. 21 will be considered an asynchronous learning day, and students will receive learning materials to complete at home that day. Â
- School buildings will be open Feb. 21, and 12-month employees will report to work that day.
K-8 families invited to learn Feb. 22 about Chesterfield Virtual School #
Chesterfield Virtual School enrollment for 2023-24 is underway. Students in grades K-8 can learn at Virginia’s first virtual school:
- Rising grades K-8 families are invited to learn about Chesterfield Virtual School during a 6 p.m. Feb. 22 meeting. Join the Zoom meeting at this link with this information: The meeting ID is 883 7071 5154, and the passcode is 401982.
- Enrollment for new students to the Chesterfield Virtual School begins by completing this form before March 31.
- Current students will remain enrolled in Chesterfield Virtual School, unless they are on a waiver. Current students who are on a waiver must fill out this form before March 31.
Virtual students who intend to return to their school of residence are asked to fill out this form and go to their school of residence to enroll for 2023-24 before April 28.
Chesterfield County to hold budget meetings throughout community #
Members of the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors will host a series of community meetings next month focused on the proposed FY2024 budget. Meetings will be held 6:30-8 p.m.

By Feb. 24: Mirror Me seeks students who want to become teachers #
Do you know a high school junior or senior who would be a great teacher and serve Chesterfield County Public Schools well? If so, then please tell them about Mirror Me before the application deadline of 11:59 p.m. Feb. 24.
The Mirror Me program aims to recruit and retain teachers of varied backgrounds by increasing the number of minority teachers and promoting the importance of the teaching profession.
- Chesterfield County Public Schools partners with Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia State University to build pathways for students to pursue higher education in teacher-preparation programs and become teachers in Chesterfield County.Â
- Current CCPS juniors and seniors and juniors and seniors at VCU and VSU enrolled in teacher-preparation program are eligible to apply to be part of Mirror Me. All eligible juniors and seniors who are interested are encouraged to apply.
- Mirror Me students receive unique support, such as access to dual-enrollment courses at no cost, financial incentives to support fees associated with enrollment at VCU or VSU and connection with a Mirror Me mentor. Additionally, Mirror Me students who successfully complete the teacher-education program at VCU or VSU receive priority hiring with Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Advanced academic advice for rising ninth and 10th graders #
Rising ninth and 10th graders and their families are invited to learn about advanced academic coursework, college readiness and how to earn college credit while in high school. Chesterfield County Public Schools is hosting a virtual gathering to help rising ninth and 10th graders make the most of their academic schedules. Prekindergarten applications are open for the 2023-24 school year. Prekindergarten is a free, full-day program for 4-year-olds, and transportation is provided in accordance with school system guidelines. Click here for more information or to apply.
CCPSOnline opens registration for summer and 2023-24 school year #
CCPSOnline offers high school flexibility. Students can take some or all of their classes in a no-walls, no-bells, no-limits virtual environment. Registration for summer courses and for the 2023-24 school year is open through April 28. Students should talk to their school counselor about including CCPSOnline in their schedule.
Virginia Council on Women essay contest #
The Virginia Council on Women encourages female high school students to enter its STEAM-H essay contest. Focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics and health care, the annual contest is open to Virginia women in their senior year of high school who hold at least a 3.0 GPA for the merit-based awards and a 2.5 GPA for the need-based scholarships. Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. March 15. Get more information here.
Safe water initiative #
As part of our efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for students and staff, CCPS is working in partnership with Chesterfield County Government to test drinking water throughout the school division.Â
The testing schedule for schools that are identified for testing this year is now available on the school division’s website.
In 2020, the Virginia General Assembly enacted new legislation regarding testing for drinking water in schools. The legislation requires school boards to develop and implement a program to test for lead in drinking water.
The Chesterfield County Risk Management’s Environmental Health Safety Office, in partnership with the Chesterfield County Public Schools Facilities Department, has developed a plan that provides guidance to meet these requirements. A triennial testing program has been developed for all school buildings, with prioritization of facilities built before 1986. Each school will be tested every three years. Nominate outstanding #oneCCPS teachers for R.E.B. Awards for Teaching Excellence! The program is accepting nominations through 5 p.m. Feb. 21. About 15 central Virginia teachers are selected each year to receive amazing grants up to $15,000 to support professional development. Award winners have earned graduate degrees, climbed mountains, traced their ancestors and met peers from around the world — all to continue their love for learning and to pass it on to their students.
