We want to hear from you about the culture of your child’s school. Communication should come from each school providing a link to the Building Ranks School Culture survey for you to complete. Each link is school-specific, so if you have children in multiple schools, we encourage you to fill out one survey for each school. Surveys will be open through Dec. 9. Parents and caregivers are invited for Coffee + Conversation, free virtual sessions offering helpful information. The 1-2 p.m. Dec. 14 gathering will focus on self-care. Middle school students invited to Jan. 14 STEAM fair #
Robots! Explosions! Art! All that and more STEAM fun is available for Chesterfield County middle school students during a fair organized by students in the Leadership and International Relations Specialty Center. The free event will take place 2-5 p.m. Jan. 14 at James River High. Learn more here about the fair featuring science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
County offers parenting class online #
Chesterfield County Prevention Services is offering an online parenting class 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from Jan. 4 through Feb. 1: Active Parenting of Teens and Tweens. The class will give you confidence and courage to meet the challenges and savor the joys of your children’s teen years. Register and pay the $50 fee here.
Students invited to submit art to Thank a Teacher contest #
In partnership with the Supply Room, the Virginia Lottery invites K-12 public school students to share their talent in the sixth annual Thank a Teacher Art Contest. Get details and submit artwork here no later than Jan. 31. Three student artists, whether enrolled virtually or face-to-face, will be selected to win a $200 gift card and their school’s art department will be awarded $1,000 from the Virginia Lottery and $1,000 from the Supply Room. The winning designs (one each from an elementary, middle and high school student artist) will be featured on thousands of thank-you notes distributed to teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

Seniors invited to read to students for community service hours #
High school seniors can volunteer to read to students at Hening, Ettrick, Curtis or Ecoff elementary schools and receive community service hours. MEGA Mentors is organizing the volunteers. Winter break #
- Winter break for students at all Chesterfield County schools will be Dec. 19-Jan. 2; the first day back will be Jan. 3. Download complete student calendars at bit.ly/CCPScals.
- In a change from previous years, school offices and the Career and Technical Center @ Hull will be open during winter break but will be closed Dec. 23-27 and Dec. 30-Jan. 2.
Virginia survey for parents of children in special education #
All parents of school-aged children and youth with disabilities who receive special education services in Virginia are encouraged to complete the Virginia Department of Education’s annual parent involvement survey no later than Dec. 16.
