Speak up to support fully funding the school system’s 2024 financial plan. Call or email members of the Board of Supervisors directly, provide written comments via the Chesterfield County budget feedback form or attend one of Chesterfield County’s community budget meetings. Please email your state representatives in the General Assembly and send your feedback to the Governor’s Office.
You can attend a town hall budget meeting in any district. Meetings will be held 6:30-8 p.m.:Â

Middle and high school families: Take advantage of free tutoring #
Earlier this week, Chesterfield County Public Schools rolled out free online tutoring services for students in middle and high school via Stride Tutoring:Â
- Students can reserve time for online video meetings with tutors licensed in subject areas in which they need additional support.
- Students and families select a tutor based on expertise and availability to fit your schedule, with tutoring available in the evenings and on weekends.
- Students do not need a teacher referral to schedule a tutoring session.
- There is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions at this time. Tutoring is being offered to provide an additional tool to help secondary students succeed.
- There is no cost to students/families. To provide this service, Chesterfield County Public Schools is using federal ESSER funds provided to address the impact of COVID-19 on schools.

If you have a child in elementary school that needs additional help, free tutoring is available through school-based programs already in place. If you have questions about tutoring options at the elementary level, contact your school.
Arts Fest spotlights student creativity and ability #
March is celebrated nationally as Youth Art Month, Music in Our Schools Month and Theater in Our Schools Month. Throughout March, Chesterfield County Public SchoolsÂ
Arts Fest offers opportunities to see and hear the talents of students in visual and performing arts programs. The displays and events are free and open to the community.
Visual arts
- Paintings, drawings, sculptures and other visual art by elementary and prekindergarten students will be on display March 1 through April 8 in Chesterfield County Public Library branches and the Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education. Library hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The Perkinson Center is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
- Art by middle and high school students will be on display at Thomas Dale High, home of the Specialty Center for the Arts, during the Secondary Fine Arts Showcase. Viewing times will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 25 and noon-4 p.m. March 26.
- Art by students in the Chesterfield Virtual School and CCPSOnline will be on display 24/7 in online galleries at oneccps.org.
Performing arts
The Secondary Fine Arts Showcase will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 25 and noon-4 p.m. March 26 at Thomas Dale High. In addition to displays of visual art, the Secondary Fine Arts Showcase will feature all-county musical performances in guitar, fiddle, jazz band and middle school band.
Sophomores and juniors invited to life-after-high-school event #
Timeline to Tomorrow is a Chesterfield County Public Schools program for families of sophomores and juniors who are considering life after high school. School counselors will be on hand to provide insight 10 a.m.-noon March 11 and March 25 at the Chesterfield County Central Library, 7051 Lucy Corr Blvd. Register here for this free opportunity.

Public is asked for feedback on revising English Standards of Learning #
On Feb. 2, the Virginia Department of Education presented to the Board of Education the review and revision process of the 2017 English Standards of Learning. The department is hosting opportunities for the public to engage, provide feedback and contribute to the review of the 2017 English Standards of Learning, which identify the essential content, processes and skills for grade level courses. Public comment may be offered during community engagement sessions, through this form provided on the Virginia Department of Education website or by emailing vdoe.english@doe.virginia.gov until March 13. Advance registration is required for all community engagement sessions, and in-person sessions are limited to 100 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.Â
Each in-person community engagement session will take place 6:30-8 p.m.:

Chesterfield Education Foundation offers college scholarships #
Each year, the Chesterfield Education Foundation awards scholarships to graduating seniors. These scholarships are funded through endowments as well as annual contributions by businesses and individuals in the community. March 24 is the deadline to apply. Through 5 p.m. March 6, Chesterfield County is accepting nominations for the Chesterfield Community Champions awards honoring residents who volunteer time and resources to benefit the community. Click here to nominate volunteers in these categories:

Enrollment is open for Chesterfield Virtual School #
Chesterfield Virtual School enrollment for 2023-24 is underway. Chesterfield County students in grades K-8 can be part of Virginia’s first virtual school:
- Enrollment for new students to the Chesterfield Virtual School begins by completing this form before March 31.
- Current students will remain enrolled in Chesterfield Virtual School, unless they are on a waiver. Current students who are on a waiver must fill out this form before March 31.
Virtual students who intend to return to their school of residence are asked to fill out this form and go to their school of residence to enroll for 2023-24 before April 28.

Prekindergarten applications are open #
Prekindergarten applications are open for the 2023-24 school year. Prekindergarten is a free, full-day program, and transportation is provided in accordance with school system guidelines. Prekindergarten serves 4-year-olds who face economic and environmental risk factors that may impact kindergarten readiness. Click here for more information or to apply.
CCPSOnline opens registration for summer and 2023-24 school year #
CCPSOnline offers high school flexibility. Students can take some or all of their classes in a no-walls, no-bells, no-limits virtual environment. Registration for summer courses and for the 2023-24 school year is open through April 28. Students should talk to their school counselor about including CCPSOnline in their schedule.
Share your thoughts via community survey #
The Chesterfield Health District is coming together with key community partners — Bon Secours, Chesterfield County Public Schools, Chesterfield County Human Services, Immigration Nation, La Casa de Salud, VCU, Waymakers, YMCA, Department of Juvenile Justice and Southside Community Development and Housing Corp. — to launch the Chesterfield community survey. The survey seeks information about the health and quality of life of Chesterfield and Colonial Heights residents. The anonymous survey will take 7-10 minutes to complete and is available in English, Spanish, Arabic and Vietnamese. April 1 is the deadline to take the survey: Redcap.link/CHDCHA.
