School Counseling Programs:

Counseling programs, activities, and services are offered to support students in achieving academic success. Counselors assist teachers and school administrators in the identification of students’ academic needs and help determine appropriate strategies to maximize learning.

Written notification, at least annually, will be sent to parents about the academic, career, and personal/social school counseling programs which are available to their children. The notification shall include the purpose and general description of the programs, information regarding ways parents may review materials to be used in school counseling programs at their child’s school, and information about the procedure by which parents may limit their child’s participation in such programs.

School counselors are prohibited from using counseling techniques which are beyond the scope of the professional certification or training of counselors, including hypnosis or other psychotherapeutic techniques that are normally employed in medical or clinical settings and focus on mental illness or psycho-pathology.

Records of an ongoing, structured, personal/social counseling with a student shall be kept confidential and separate from a student’s educational records and not disclosed to third-parties without prior parental consent or as otherwise provided by law. Parents may request to review this confidential record by contacting the school counselor. The counselor will make the records available within five (5) working days.

Parents may elect in writing to have their child not participate (opt out) in classroom counseling lessons.

Beyond the general services offered as described above, the Clover Hill School Counseling Department offers a number of other services and programs, e.g. College Night, financial aid workshops, orientations, and student scheduling. The department also coordinates all mandated testing, sends transcripts, and coordinates award assemblies with the administration.

School Counseling Services:

The purpose of school counseling is to build skills for academic, career and personal/social development. School counseling in Chesterfield County Public Schools is a planned, sequential program of services that is comprehensive in scope and developmental in nature.

Academic counseling helps students and parents learn about curriculum choices, plan an appropriate program of studies, arrange and interpret academic testing and seek postsecondary academic opportunities.

Career counseling helps students acquire information and plan for work, jobs, apprenticeships and postsecondary education and career opportunities.

Personal or social counseling helps students develop an understanding of themselves and the rights and needs of others, resolve conflict and define individual goals that reflect their interests, abilities and aptitudes. Such counseling may be provided in groups in which generic issues of social development are addressed or through structured individual or small group counseling sessions that focus on specific student concerns (for example, divorce, anxiety or aggressive behavior).

Welcome to Clover Hill's College and Career Center - The Career Center has many resources available to all students, including information regarding higher education, internships, volunteer opportunities, and the military. The Career Center is open during regular school day hours.

• Freshman Year Checklist - Meet with your high school counselor for advice on your future plans - and begin identifying your interests and developing skills for the future.
• Sophomore Year Checklist - Meet with your counselor and review your four year academic plan - keep up with grades  - have a conversation about career paths - and what further education they will entail. Take the PSAT in the fall and meet with your counselor to discuss your results - create an account on CollegeBoard.org.
• Junior Year Checklist - This year's meeting with your counselor will include discussions of future plans - course selection for your senior year, and career options. Register for the SAT or ACT - if your plans include a four year college.  
• Senior Year Checklist - Review your transcript and test scores - stay organized - attend college information sessions, apply for scholarships - internships. Request transcripts and letters of recommendation - for college applications or places of employment. Stay focused on your goals.
• SENIORS - Complete the FAFSA - to be eligible for financial aid - [available October 1] and make an appointment with Mrs. Sandi Morgan - the GRASP representative, to assist with college funding questions. Please call the main counseling office to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Morgan.

How to Get a Copy of Your Official Clover Hill Transcript

Chesterfield County Public Schools has partnered with Parchment.com for all transcript requests and education verifications for all current high school students and alumni.  Parchment provides efficient and secure electronic transcript delivery nationwide with up-to-date tracking through email notifications for all registered users.

Processing Time:

Please allow at least seven (7) business days to process all requests.  Transcripts ordered through Parchment over the weekend or holiday breaks will not be processed until school re-opens. Please keep this in mind, as many college application deadlines fall around the holiday seasons.

Current Students:

• STEP1: Obtain a Parchment Registration/Activation Code by clicking  "Parchment Activation Code".   If you are not 18 you will need a parent/guardian to complete the “Parchment Activation Code” form.  After you have completed the form you should visit the Main School Counseling office to pick up your code.  
• STEP2: After you have obtained your registration/activation code you will need to go to www.parchment.com.  After entering your registration/activation code follow the steps for setting up your account.
