Don’t underestimate the importance of having fun participating in school activities. Some of the best times and memories students have are the experiences of belonging to a club or participating in an after school activity. Clubs and activities are important to join just for the enjoyment that they will bring to most students, but they also allow the students to more easily make friends because the groups are small and they get to be themselves!
Clubs and activities provide students with many positive experiences that help them to become well-rounded individuals who are ready for college or the workplace. It helps students to become active in their school and to feel a connection the school and to others. It provides a sense of pride and school spirit and it is a positive influence on our youth today.
Kindness Ambassadors is a leadership program hosted by the school counselors that involves students from second and third grade, and Mini Kindness Ambassadors involve students from kindergarten and first grade.
In the past, this service club was known as PAWS: Peers Actively and Willingly Supporting our community. One student was chosen from each classroom by his or her teacher to represent the class. Students will participate in efforts to spread kindness, support, and positive messages to people in our community and throughout the school.
WES sponsors a service club known as PAWS. It stands for Peers Actively and Willingly Supporting our community. Two students from each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes are chosen as representatives. The club facilitates service projects on local, national, and global levels. Examples of projects include buying chickens for an African orphanage, Walk for Crohns and Colitis, Coats for Kids, Pennies for Patients, Hurricane Relief … and many more. The PAWS reps are responsible for disseminating information about projects to their homeroom class and an assigned buddy classroom. Posters to advertise the service project are created by PAWS reps and displayed throughout the building. Information about current service projects is also sent out in the electronic messages from the principal.
The Woolridge Running Club is designed to expose Woolridge Elementary students to long distance running, while providing a sense of community, and promoting healthy, active choices outside of school. Students should be dropped off in the bus loop at 8:30 a.m. To participate, please sign up prior to attending. All grades are welcome. Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a family and community engagement educational initiative that provides positive male role models for the students in an educational setting. The Watch DOG program invites fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, and other father figures to serve at least one full day at WES during the school year.
If you are interested in volunteering as a Watch DOG, please be sure that you have completed the CCPS volunteer application online.
We have a Watch DOG kick off event annually. This event is typically held at the beginning of the school year and spots fill up fast! Please be on the lookout at the start of each year for this event and ways to sign up.
