Dr. Shindler graduated from James Madison University with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Social Science and a minor in secondary education. After graduation, he began his teaching career in Chesterfield County. During his 16 years in the classroom, he taught U.S. History, World History, and U.S. Government. He later earned his Master of Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia and his Doctor of Education in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership from William and Mary. Before becoming principal of Monacan High School, he served as the dean of students and associate principal at Matoaca High School.
Dr. Gifford earned his B.A. in Government from the University of Texas, his B.Ed. from the University of Michigan, his M.T. from Virginia Commonwealth University, and his Master’s endorsement in Administration from Virginia State University. Before becoming a principal, Dr. Gifford taught social studies. Having traveled widely in the United States and teaching English in East Asia, he has a keen interest in culture, diversity, and education.

Ms. Butler is entering her nineteenth year of education. Before transitioning into Administration Ms. Butler taught chemistry at Varina High School for 13 years.
She is a graduate of The College of William and Mary. In her free time she enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

I am excited to join the Monacan family and most recently came from Manchester High School where I coordinated exceptional education programming. I am a graduate of Monacan High School and was a three sport student-athlete during my high school years. I received a Bachelor’s degree from Roanoke College, a Master of Arts in teaching (MAT) from Liberty University, and an Educational Leadership Licensure from Longwood University.
I have a wonderful husband and three girls who are all very active along with two dogs! I look forward to building strong relationships, mutual respect, and making Monacan the best possible experience for everyone here…Go Chiefs!!!
