IB programmes offer students access to a broad and balanced range of academic studies and learning experiences. They promote conceptual learning, create frameworks within which knowledge can be acquired, and focus on powerful organizing ideas that are relevant across subject areas and that help to integrate learning and add coherence to the curriculum.
The programmes emphasize the importance of making connections, exploring the relationships between academic disciplines, and learning about the world in ways that reach beyond the scope of individual subjects. They also focus on offering students authentic opportunities to connect their learning to the world around them.

The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a two-year, liberal arts, college preparatory programme that students take during their final two years of high school. Students enrolled in the IBDP take six, two-year, college-level courses in the following subject groups: 1) Studies in Language and Literature, 2) Language Acquisition, 3) Individuals and Societies, 4) Sciences, 5) Mathematics, and 6) The Arts (or an addtional course from subject groups 3 or 4). The IB Diploma Programme is the best preparation available to Chesterfield County Public Schools students for their studies in college. College admissions offices accross the country (and the world) recognize the rigor of the IBDP curriculum, and recognize that graduates of the diploma programme are well prepared for success in college. Including your membership in the IBDP at Midlothian High School on your college applications helps you to stand out from other applicants.
Additionally, students can earn college credit for the IB courses taken at Midlothian High School. Students take assessments for each IB course taken and earn a score of 1-7 on those assessments. The vast majority of colleges and universities accept IB scores for college credit. Each college or university have their own policy regarding credit for IB courses, and the simplest way to find that information is to search the web for “IB Credit” and the name of the college or university.
Students in the IB Diploma Programme take the following courses during their 11th and 12th grade years. All courses are two year courses unless otherwise noted. For more detailed information, including courses students take during the 9th and 10th grade years, see the Midlo IB Course Sequence document.
*Students who did not take at least year one of the three languages offered in the Midlo IB Programme will be asked to take year one of Spanish during the summer prior to joining the programme.

The steps provided below are intended for 8th grade students who are zoned for one of the following high schools: West Ridge, Clover Hill, Cosby, James River, Monacan, Midlothian. Students zoned for any other CCPS high school must apply to the Meadowbrook IB Programme per CCPS policy. Private school or homeschooled students must apply to the CCPS school they are zoned to attend.
Students who are not residents of Chesterfield County may not apply to a CCPS Specialty Center, including the Midlo IB Programme, until residency in Chesterfield is established.

Midlothian High School 9th or 10th graders interested in applying to the IB Diploma Programme should speak to Mr. Jones, IB Coordinator. The internal application process is separate from the process described above.
The Midlo IB assessment sessions consist of a writing and math assessment that applicants will complete at Midlothian High School. Applicants will be invited to assessment sessions once the application window closes.
