Don’t underestimate the importance of having fun participating in school activities. Some of the best times and memories students have are the experiences of belonging to a club or participating in an after school activity. Clubs and activities are important to join just for the enjoyment that they will bring to most students, but they also allow the students to more easily make friends because the groups are small and they get to be themselves!
Clubs and activities provide students with many positive experiences that help them to become well-rounded individuals who are ready for college or the workplace. It helps students to become active in their school and to feel a connection the school and to others. It provides a sense of pride and school spirit and it is a positive influence on our youth today.
Family Game Night was a great time to allow our families to come together to enjoy time spent as a community playing games, visiting the book vending machine, getting to take home a new book and completing the Matoaca Elementary Title 1 yearly survey. All in attendance enjoyed having the FACE van available for popcorn and snow cone treats.
Matoaca Elementary Field Day is a fun-filled, springtime event held across all grade levels. Field Day gives our students the chance to celebrate the school year coming to an end, show school pride and spend a day participating in many fun-filled activities outside. Students were excited to enjoy the bouncy house and snow cones as an extra treat on Field Day.
Literacy Night is a special night in which the staff, students, families, and the community come together to share our love of reading, writing, and books. Students and their families are invited to play literacy games, participate in literacy activities, and shop at the library’s book fair. Special guests from the community attend and families are provided dinner. The evening ends with raffle prizes and a celebration of literacy by our special guests.
Math Night is another special night in which the staff, students, families, and the community celebrate all things math. Each year the event is uniquely planned. Past events have featured math games or an interactive math performance. Special guests from the community attend and families are provided dinner.
Students in grades 3 through 5 are invited to join the Sportsbackers-sponsored Kid’s Run Club. Students meet before school once a week to grow in running stamina, fitness, and confidence. In the fall, the club culminates with students participating in the Kid’s Tacky Light Run, and in the spring with students participating in the Kid’s Mile Run at the Monument Avenue 10K.
