Counseling

The following Office of School Counseling services are available to all middle and high school students in Chesterfield County Public Schools:

Academic counseling which assist students and their parents in acquiring knowledge of curricula choices available to students, planning a program of studies, arranging and interpreting academic testing, and seeking post secondary academic opportunities.

Career guidance which helps students acquire information and plan action about work, apprenticeships and post secondary opportunities.

Personal/social guidance and counseling which assist students in developing an understanding of themselves, resolving conflicts, and defining individual goals that reflect their interests, abilities and aptitudes.

• Contact the James River High School Counseling Office, during the hours of 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM Monday through Friday, to set up an appointment to enroll your student. Only a parent or legal guardian may enroll a student. You may call 378-2427, ext. 4110 to make an enrollment appointment.  
• General enrollment information and required documents for enrolling your students can be found on the CCPS Website.  It is essential that you bring all listed documents to your appointment and complete the preregistration online.

Seniors, did you know…there are a TON of scholarships available to you.  Check out the James River Scholarship Ripple for updates regarding scholarship opportunities.  This Ripple will be updated starting in August. 

James River High School uses a program called Parchment to send student transcripts.  Any student wishing to create a Parchment account must use a registration code provided by JRHS.

  • Complete the Electronic Transcript Permission Form
  • Allow 3-5 business days for your registration code and account setup instructions to be emailed to you.  
  • Do NOT make an account without a code. 
  • Do NOT make a parent account.  
• If I already have an account, how do I order my transcript? 
  • Go to Parchment.com
  • If you’re using Common Application to apply to colleges and universities please select Common Application as the destination for your transcript order.  You do NOT need to send your transcripts to each school you’re applying to.  
  • If you need your transcript sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center, select NCAA Eligibility Center as the destination for your transcript order.

• Information about SAT, PSAT, and ACT
• James River High School offers a large variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  Upon completing an AP course students have the opportunity to take the correlating AP exam.  You can find all AP Testing information here.  If you would like to send your AP test scores to a college or university you must send them through your College Board account.
