Welcome to the Activities page of Jacobs Road Elementary, where we believe that keeping our kids active, fostering community involvement, and building school spirit are essential for their growth and development. Five Houses, One School! At Jacobs Road we strive to build community through our house system! Every student and staff member is assigned to one of our five houses. Students can earn points for their house by following our ROARS Values (Respect, Optimism, Achievement, Responsibility, and Self Control).Students love watching the leaderboards in the cafeteria and office to see if their house is in the lead! We also have house days, allowing students to spend time with friends and staff members in their house doing fun activities or working on a community service project.
Fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to apply to join our Safety Patrol team. Students selected for this prestigious leadership role serve as role models, helping ensure that students move safely, orderly, and respectfully throughout the building and bus loop.
Each quarter our counselors and administrators meet with each grade level to celebrate student accomplishments. Awards are given to students who earn A and AB Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, as well as students that demonstrate ROARS values (Respect, Optimism, Achievement, Responsibility, and Self Control). Not only do the students leave the assembly feeling prouds of themselves, but they are also motivated to achieve greatness in the next nine weeks!
Every second grade student has the opportunity to participate in swim lessons At Swim RVA. Each spring students go to Swim RVA weekly to learn how to swim and basic water safety. Students leave the program feeling safe and confident for upcoming summer fun!
Field Day at JRES is an exciting, activity-packed event where students participate in various physical challenges and team games. It’s a day dedicated to fitness, fun, and building school spirit. Parents are welcome to volunteer and join in the excitement, helping make this memorable day even more special!
NEHS recognizes outstanding fourth and fifth grade students who exemplify the pillars of scholarship, responsibility, service, and leadership. At Jacobs Road Elementary, students must earn a minimum 3.5 GPA and consistently demonstrate these qualities through their academic achievement, citizenship, and contributions to their school and community to be selected for induction.
Calling all nature lovers! Our Nature Buddies club meets after school twice a month to learn about nature and beautify our school. The Nature Buddies club built a nature trail around the school, allowing students to use nature as their classroom and see first hand the science concepts covered in the state curriculum. They also have special visitors attend some of their meetings to engage the students in hands-on activities. We are so lucky to have this program at our school!
The run club “Kids On The Move” offers free after school physical activity in a structured environment. The club operates through Sportsbackers and offers a free t-shirt, free race entry into a weekend 1 mile race, with race bib and medal for all finishers. Each race also has free swag that is given to the runners. Each member gets a water bottle and a pizza party after the club season is over. All free of charge!
Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.
Each fall and Spring we host the Scholastic Book Fair at Jacobs! Choosing their books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. Students visit the book fair during library class or after school with a family. There are several ways to purchase books through the book fair including in person with an ewallet or through an online payment.
International Night is one of our most popular events of the year. At this event we encourage families and staff members to celebrate their heritage by sharing cuisine from their home countries. Visitors are welcome to sample foods at each booth and learn more about their friends and peers’ heritage. We love celebrating our diversity at Jacobs!
Join us for a night of math and reading before heading out for summer break! At our Slide into Summer event, teachers and staff share math and reading activities to practice throughout the summer to keep skills fresh. We also will provide dinner and have special guest visitors to keep students engaged and excited about learning!
The Resource Showcase is a vibrant event where students’ talents and hard work are on full display, with highlights from our incredible PE, library, music, art, and STEAM programs. This annual showcase offers a unique opportunity for families to see firsthand the amazing projects and achievements of our students across these creative and academic fields.
