Don’t underestimate the importance of having fun participating in school activities. Some of the best times and memories students have are the experiences of belonging to a club or participating in an after school activity. Clubs and activities are important to join just for the enjoyment that they will bring to most students, but they also allow the students to more easily make friends because the groups are small and they get to be themselves!
Clubs and activities provide students with many positive experiences that help them to become well-rounded individuals who are ready for college or the workplace. It helps students to become active in their school and to feel a connection the school and to others. It provides a sense of pride and school spirit and it is a positive influence on our youth today.

Bobcat Productions is an after-school musical theatre program at Hopkins Road Elementary School, launched in 2024 as part of the Disney Musicals in Schools initiative. This program brings the magic of musical theatre to our Title 1 school, giving students in grades 3, 4, and 5 a chance to shine on stage and behind the scenes. With about 45 students performing and 15 more working offstage, plus additional students contributing through art enrichment, Bobcat Productions is a true community effort led by dedicated teachers and supported by parents.
Hopkins Chess – In this before school program, 3rd through 5th grade Bobcats learn and practice the basics of chess. It is geared toward fun, sportsmanship, and understanding the game rather than highly competitive play.
The Hopkins Chorus, under the direction of our Music Specialist Mr. Brooks, is a 4th and 5th grade singing ensemble. There is no audition and no fee to join the Chorus. The Chorus sings both sacred and secular songs and performs several times a year. The Chorus meets once a week during the school day.
Girls on the Run is an inspiring after-school program for girls in 3rd through 5th grade that builds confidence, develops leadership skills, and strengthens friendships through engaging lessons and physical activity. Girls learn to set goals, embrace their individuality, and make a positive impact in their community while training together for a celebratory 5K. Girls on the Run helps every girl recognize her potential and discover that she is capable of amazing things.
The Hopkins Juggling Team, under the direction of Mr. Brooks, is a 3rd – 5th grade team. Students begin with learning the fundamentals of juggling and work towards realizing goals to advance along 15 levels of juggling tricks and props. There is no fee to join the Juggling Team. Due to high interest and a limited number of juggling props there is a waiting list to join the juggling team.
Minds In Motion is a year-long program that teaches fourth-grade students discipline, dedication and self-awareness by leading them through a series of choreographic movements which must be memorized and expanded upon in each class session. Minds In Motion classes are held once a week in each participating school during months of October through May.
4th and 5th grade Bobcats with excellent report card grades may be invited to apply for NEHS. NEHS candidates must demonstrate scholarship, service, leadership and responsibility. Candidates who are accepted into NEHS attend an evening induction ceremony with their families. NEHS holds monthly meetings focused on school and community service.
The Hopkins Cuber Team, under the direction of Mr. Brooks, is a 4th and 5th grade group of speed cubers. Members learn various strategies and techniques to completely solve a Rubik’s Cube quickly and efficiently. The current Hopkins student record for completely solving a randomized cube is 36 seconds. Students interested in joining the Cube Team must own a speed cube and be able to learn the first two algorithms independently. Students may purchase one from the Hopkins Cube Team for $5 or from any speed cube dealer. The Cuber team meets during the school day and there are no fees to join the Hopkins Cube Team.
5th grade Bobcats have the opportunity to apply for AAA Safety Patrol. Safety Patrollers monitor the hallways in the mornings and assist staff with breakfast kiosk duty. Patrollers are expected to show Bobcat Excellence at all times!
The Hopkins Hotwheelers are a Unicycle Team under the direction of Mr. Brooks. This is a 2nd – 5th grade team. There are no prerequisites to join the Unicycle Team. It is assumed that students have never ridden a unicycle or bicycle before. Beginning with basic safety and riding techniques and progressing to various tricks, students work towards realizing goals to advance through the 10 levels of unicycling. There is no fee to join the Hopkins Hotwheelers. Due to high interest and a limited number of unicycles there is a waiting list to join the unicycling team.
