Activities

There is something for everyone! Get involved!

Clubs and activities give students opportunities to explore their interests, try something new and connect with others. Browse the options below to learn more about the activities available at our school.

PTA Clubs

The PTA sponsors several different kinds of after school clubs that meet throughout the year for five to six weeks at a time. Information and enrollment sheets will be sent home in the Wednesday communication folder.

Battle of the Books

All 5th graders are invited to join the Battle of the Books reading program. Team members answer questions about specific books that they have read in a competition. The summer reading list can be found under instruction on the library page. The rest of the reading list is a mystery and will not be released until the BOB kick-off in October. Start your reading and begin to prepare for the Battle of the Books! The sponsor for this program is Katherine Gilmore.

Community/School EVents

Throughout the year, special thematic evenings are planned for students and their families. From Family Adventure Night, Math Night, Fitness Night, International Night, and Lions on the Lawn, families can come together for food, games, and lots of fun! Information on each event will come home in the Wednesday communication folder prior to any scheduled event.

Family Reading Night

Open to all students and their families on the first Thursday of the month from 6-8. Come participate in fun literacy activities. Some previous events have been “Read to a Therapy Dog”, “Read with a Soldier”, and “Pajama Party”. Each family member can check out a library book.

Million Minute Reading Challenge

Open to all students in the school, students turn in a record of their out of school reading minutes. Students collect different colored charms at various levels during their weekly visits to the library. The ultimate school wide goal is for the school to read at least one million minutes.

When the 2014-2015 goal was exceeded with 1,078,614 minutes, Mrs. Gilmore shaved her head.

Running Club

The Running Club is open to 1st through 5th graders. The club meets for 10 to 12 weeks in the fall and in the spring. They meet before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to train for different races such as Kids Run RVA, 529 1 Mile Race in Richmond, and Run on the Wildside 5K. The sponsors are Brooke Moseley and Jeff Suho.

Watch D.O.G.S.

Welcome to the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program.

It is an initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father figures in the community to provide positive male role models for the students and to enhance school security.

If you are interested in participating in our program, please email or contact Karensa Sheehan at 530-5733. Our goal is to have each school day filled with volunteer Watch D.O.G.S.
