The transportation system in Chesterfield County Public Schools is the largest in central Virginia.

The transportation system in Chesterfield County Public Schools is the largest in central Virginia, daily carrying 55,000+ students along 2,500+ routes covering 26,000 miles.

  • School bus transportation is available to most students attending county schools in accordance with School Board policy 7160. The policy is available on oneccps.org under the School Board tab in the policies section.
  • Families are asked to keep up-to-date student transportation information by logging into ParentVUE and checking your home address and any alternative addresses. For a link to ParentVUE and more details, go to oneccps.org/parentvue-studentvue.
  • Prekindergarten, kindergarten or early childhood special education students may sit with an older sibling at the front of the bus.
  • Bus stops are placed in the safest location possible with a maximum walking distance of 0.3 miles for students in prekindergarten through grade 5 and 0.5 miles for students in grades 6-12 when possible during the school year; distances may be greater during summer school.
  • Bus stop information is available to parents via e-Link by using a student’s ID to sign in. Routes and stops are subject to change at any time.
  • Students must be at their assigned bus stop five minutes before their bus is due to arrive. School buses will not wait for students.

The My Stop web and mobile application allows you to locate your child’s bus via GPS tracking to see where the bus is and its estimated arrival to your bus stop. The bus’s location is updated on the map every five seconds so there are no surprises in the event of a delay. If My Stop is not working, then be at your bus stop five minutes before the bus’s planned arrival time. Here’s how to access My Stop:

Search for My Stop in the app store and select “Versatrans My Stop.” There are several My Stop apps; choose the Versatrans version.

Express cards (or radio frequency identification cards) add an extra level of safety for the youngest students as they board and disembark school buses.

  • Cards have been issued to PK-5 students to be used throughout their school years in Chesterfield County Public Schools. Students should bring their cards to school every day; they may be used on the bus, in the school library and in the school cafeteria.
  • Students place the card against a sensor as they board and disembark. The tablet will make a happy sound if the student is boarding/disembarking at the correct locations.
  • Parents can use My Stop to follow the bus the student rides, and the points at which the student enters and leaves the bus are recorded.
  • The cards do not track students. The cards only associate students to the bus they are riding so parents know where their students are and drivers know which stops are the correct stops.

Bus transportation is a privilege, and students riding school buses are required to obey all rules and regulations established by the school and driver. All buses are equipped with surveillance cameras to assist in safe transportation. Parents are encouraged to remind their children to respect the property of the school division and neighbors living near a bus stop. Inappropriate conduct while riding a school bus may result in denial of this privilege. The school principal and Transportation Department make disciplinary decisions about school bus transportation.

Specialty Centers, Governor's Schools, CodeRVA, Acceler8 and Center-Based Gifted (CBG) Programs

Morning

  • Students will be picked up at neighborhood stops and transported to a hub (Bird High or Clover Hill High).
  • At the hub, students will transfer to a bus that takes them to Acceler8

Afternoon

  • Students load at Acceler8 on the home high school career and technical center bus.
  • At the high school students transfer to their neighborhood bus to go home.

Transportation is provided to high school specialty centers, governor’s schools and CodeRVA.

Students who attend specialty centers located in their attendance zone will ride their regular neighborhood bus to and from school.

Here are transportation details for students who attend a specialty center outside their attendance zone, a governor’s school or CodeRVA:

Morning

  • Students will be picked up at neighborhood stops and transported to a hub (Bird High or Clover Hill High).
  • At the hub, students will transfer to a bus that takes them to their specialty center, governor’s school or CodeRVA.
  • Students who do not ride the bus to their hub location should arrive at the hub before 7:35 a.m.
  • When bad weather closes CCPS or the school district where the student’s school is located, then transportation will not be provided.
  • When Chesterfield County Public Schools is closed for a holiday, but governor’s schools or CodeRVA remain open, then students will be picked up at the middle school in their attendance zone. The bus departure schedule is below. 

Afternoon

  • Specialty center students and most governor’s school and CodeRVA students will be transported to Clover Hill High or Bird High. From there, they will transfer to a bus that will take them to their express bus stop located within 3 miles of their home for parent pickup.
  • Some governor’s school and CodeRVA students will be transported directly to their express bus stop located within 3 miles of their home for parent pickup.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CBG SITES

  • All students who attend a center-based gifted site will be picked up and dropped off at a neighborhood bus stop, which is a designated stop within an 0.3 mile walking distance from the homes of assigned students.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CBG SITES

  • Students who attend a center-based gifted site in their attendance zone will ride their regular neighborhood bus to and from school.
  • Students who attend a center-based gifted site outside their attendance zone follow the procedures below.

Morning

  • Parents will transport middle school center-based gifted students to a designated bus stop within 3 miles of their home. 
  • Parents who think their designated bus stop is more than 3 miles away should request a review using this online form.
  • Students who do not ride the bus should not be brought to school before 7:15 a.m. 

Afternoon

  • Students will be transported home to neighborhood stops from the center-based gifted middle school site.
  • Parents who pick up their child at dismissal should do so at their center-based gifted site.

Due to inclement weather

When CCPS is closed due to weather, no transportation is provided.

Due to a Chesterfield County student holiday

When CCPS is closed but governor’s schools and CodeRVA remain open, parents must provide morning transportation to the middle school in their attendance zone. The bus departure schedule is below. From the middle schools, a bus will take students to governor’s schools and CodeRVA. In the afternoon, students will ride the bus directly to their express bus stop.

Students in private placement, students who live in another locality, students who attend school outside of Chesterfield County

When weather affects school hours, here is the transportation plan for students in private school placement and students who live in a different locality or attend any school outside of Chesterfield County: 

  • If your child attends a private school located in Chesterfield County, then your child’s transportation will follow what Chesterfield County Public Schools does. For example, if Chesterfield County Public Schools opens two hours late, then your child’s transportation will arrive two hours later than usual. If Chesterfield County Public Schools is closed, then your child will not be transported to school.
  • If your child lives outside Chesterfield County or attends any school located outside Chesterfield County, then transportation will follow the most restrictive schedule. Here’s an example: If Chesterfield County Public Schools opens two hours late but your student lives in or attends a school in Henrico County and Henrico County Public Schools is closed, then your child will not be transported to school. Here’s another example: If Chesterfield County Public Schools is closed but Henrico County Public Schools opens two hours late and your child’ lives in or attends school in Henrico County, then your child will not be transported to school.
