Counselors consult with parents, teachers, administrators and other professionals to provide students with the resources and services to help them be the best possible learners.<\/p><p>Parents\/guardians, teachers, and students may each request to see or speak to a counselor. Parents\/guardians, feel free to call or email your students\u2019 grade-level counselor if you have any concerns about your child. Teachers can refer students to us and students can request to see us, either through their teacher (K-2) or a Google form (3-5). A request for individual counseling may be made by a parent, teacher, administrator or student. Students are able to express concerns in a safe environment where problem solving can take place. Topics of concern may include: friendship, grief, anger management, anxiety, family changes and school attendance.<\/p><p>Techniques often used during individual counseling sessions are:<br \/>role playing, puppetry, storytelling, goal setting, counseling game playing, creation of art work and discussion.<\/p><p>Although we provide a multitude of services for students, intensive, long-term counseling is not available through the school counseling program.<\/p><p><strong>Group Counseling<\/strong><br \/>Small group counseling consists of several students, facilitated by the counselor, who are facing normal developmental issues. The small group setting serves as a way for students to talk about feelings and concerns with other children who have similar needs.<\/p><p>Each session is approximately 30 minutes and takes place once a week over six-eight weeks. Group times are coordinated with classroom teachers so as to disrupt as little instructional time as possible.<\/p><p>Some examples of small groups are:<\/p><ul><li>Anger Management<\/li><li>Changing Families (divorce\/separation\/adoption)<\/li><li>Friendship (social skills)<\/li><li>Feeling Better About Me (self-concept\/getting along better)<\/li><li>Grief and Loss<\/li><\/ul>   <\/div>\n<div id=\"bts-uc_uc_bullet_tabs_elementor_4da4e21uc_uc_bullet_tabs_elementor_4da4e21_item2\" class=\"panes\">\n   <p><strong>Classroom Guidance Lessons<\/strong><br \/>Classroom guidance lessons are extremely important in the school setting. Classroom guidance allows a counselor to be proactive in a variety of areas to a large number of students.
