The Success Program was created almost 20 years ago as a 9th grade transition program. Since then, the program has now developed into a \u201csafety-net\u201d for the entire school. The purpose of the program is to make sure that every student at Manchester High School has the resources available to ensure their success in high school. Initially, rising freshmen are recommended and\/or recruited to enter the program during their 8th grade year. In addition, any freshman who is struggling throughout the year will be recruited to enter the program. All former members of the Success Program are tracked throughout their high school years until they graduate. In addition, grades are monitored for the entire student body throughout the year. Students who are struggling are offered the opportunity to enter the Success Program in order to improve their academic standing.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

<\/i><\/span><\/i><\/span>Success Program Services<\/span><\/i><\/div>

The Success Program provides 11th and 12 grade student mentors to all of our freshmen students. Volunteer teachers provide tutoring to all of our students. All Success students including mentors) have the opportunity to complete homework from other classes, make up quizzes or tests, and complete projects for other classes. All instruction is under direct supervision and assistance of Success Program faculty.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

\n\t\t\t\t\t
<\/i><\/span><\/i><\/span>Success 1<\/span><\/i><\/div>

All Success Program freshmen are enrolled in Success 1, which counts as an elective credit towards their graduation requirements. In Success 1, students are exposed to a character education curriculum developed by Success Program faculty members. This includes PBL experiences, field trips, and guest speakers. In addition, all freshmen will have the opportunity to complete assignments from other classes and have the opportunity to received assistance from 11th and 12 grade student mentors.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

<\/i><\/span><\/i><\/span>Success 2<\/span><\/i><\/div>

All Success Program freshmen who successfully completed Success I are encouraged to Success 2. This class also counts as an elective credit as well as a sequences towards their graduation requirements. In Success 2, all sophomores will have the opportunity to receive the same resources that were available in Success 1 with the exception of student mentors. In addition, sophomores will learn and use effective study skill strategies and complete several independent character education projects.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

<\/i><\/span><\/i><\/span>Success 3<\/span><\/i><\/div>

Juniors who have successfully completed Success 2 have the opportunity to enroll in Success 3 which provides identical support as the sophomore class. Juniors in Success 3 will also have the benefit of teacher support via tutors and direct assistance. Character education is further explored with juniors completing PBL\u2019s to support the curriculum.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

<\/i><\/span><\/i><\/span>Success 4 & Jobs for VA Graduates<\/span><\/i><\/div>

Success 4 and JVG are taught in a combined setting. This senior-only class is designed to provide academic support, career based training, job skills acquisition, and workplace transition skills. Success 4 provides the same academic resources as all of the other Success classes.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>

\n\t\t\t\t\t
<\/i><\/span><\/i><\/span>Success Mentorship<\/span><\/i><\/div>

Juniors and seniors who have been recommended to become student mentors in the Success Program can enroll in Sociology w\/ Peer Facilitator and Service Learning, which can count as an elective credit towards graduation. Students will serve as mentors to the Year I students, providing academic and organizational assistance to the freshmen.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
