Students will join either the Teacher, Staff & Student Appreciation Committee or the Community Outreach Committee.  Students will spearhead projects to benefit our school community. All members will help our Mustang community through peer tutoring. We try to provide at least one optional large group service project per marking period. The rest of the service hours are earned by students individually, except for the last marking period when we complete a capstone community service project that all members must participate in in some way, according to NJHS bylaws.","time_commitment":"NJHS meetings are usually held bi-weekly during Mustang Morning. Depending on the committee you choose, additional time commitments will be required in Mustang Morning. Occasionally, we will have after school events but will notify members well in advance.","how_to_sign_up":"INVITE ONLY: To be considered for membership, students in 7th grade are assessed annually based on their cumulative, unweighted GPA, using final grades from 6th grade and first semester grades from 7th grade. Each year, we accept a maximum of 50 students into the chapter. Invitations are sent after the 3rd marking period in 7th grade based on a minimum GPA selected to be no less than 3.75 and no more than 4.25.\u00a0 Once invited, students must complete an application form, being careful to follow all directions. When the faculty committee meets to determine eligibility of applicants, we consider the extent of leadership, service, academic achievements, and co-curricular activities the students have participated in. We also look for teacher feedback in the areas of character, leadership, service, citizenship, and scholarship (the 5 pillars of NJHS). Each year, we select 50 students, who meet those requirements, to be invited to an induction ceremony that will take place in September of their 8th grade year. Once inducted, 8th grade students are in for the remainder of the school year\r\n\r\nOnce accepted, students must demonstrate NJHS\u2019s pillars in all school activities in addition to upholding the following requirements:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Maintaining high academic standards with no honor code violations<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Completing individual service to the community through committee work (students are required to complete 5 hours of community service per semester)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Maintaining high standards of conduct (no disciplinary issues)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Demonstrating leadership and role model qualities<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Participate in 80% of school based NJHS meetings and activities<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Pay $20 annual dues in cash or by check, made out to MMS, to cover T-shirt and chapter dues.
