Family Library Nights offer regular opportunities for Eagles and their families to play games, do crafts, get a free book and enjoy the library after hours. Keep an eye out on Dojo for Family Library Night dates coming soon.

We’re so excited for another great year in our library!

Field Day is one of the most anticipated days of the school year. Students look forward to rotating through stations in the morning that focus on team building and sports skills developed throughout the year during PE instruction. The afternoon is filled with traditional Field Day relay races and events concluding with a tug of war tournament for students in grades 3-5. This annual event brings our school community closer together and is a great way to conclude the year.

The Harrowgate Elementary School’s 21st CCLC program is a valuable educational resource for our 2nd-5th grade students who struggle academically. The program is designed to provide academic support and enrichment activities to help students improve their academic performance and overall well-being. The morning program will provide tutoring with a focus on reading and math skills and will be directed by classroom teachers. It will run from 7:45-9:05 a.m., Monday through Thursday.

The academic instructional program will consist of direct instruction and academic remediation, primarily during the before-school hours when children and teachers are attentive.

The afternoon program will start directly after school at 4 p.m. with attendance being taken, homework help, and a snack. Students then move to an hour of enrichment clubs and activities. These activities rotate every two weeks to allow students to participate in each. At 5:30 p.m., students report to their bus for the ride home. High school and/or college tutors or instructional aides will work with the students for 30 minutes to help them complete their homework while teachers and partners set up the afternoon enrichment programs.

Over the course of the year, each club will rotate among a wide variety of research-based enrichment and wellness activities.

In 2022, Harrowgate received a grant for a theater program for our 3rd-5th graders. This program was created in conjunction with Disney’s Musicals in School and the VA Repertory Theater. Students in the program have the opportunity to sing, dance and act during the after school rehearsal. Some students are also invited to participate in creating the scenery, props and costumes for the productions. Past productions have included The Lion King Kids (2023) and Finding Nemo Kids (2024).
