Dr. Stephen Hackett, Principal<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Hackett resides in Chester, VA with his wife and three children. Since 2004 he has worked for Chesterfield County Public Schools as a teacher, coach, mentor, and administrator. He spent the first 10 years in the classroom teaching Technology and Engineering classes, prior to Carver Academy he was the Assistant and Associate Principal of Chesterfield Career and Technical Center\u2019s Hull Street campus. Dr. Hackett earned a Bachelor of Science in Technical Education from Buffalo State University, a Master\u2019s Degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has a passion for Career and Technical Education and believes in experiential learning that uses authentic and captivating learning experiences to help students meet their goals as they pursue their career dreams.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Vanita M. Mason brings over 25 years of vibrant experience across public education and corporate leadership.\u00a0 Mrs. Mason is an award-winning educator who is deeply curious about nurturing community relationships and helping both students and staff get better everyday. Her studies include a Master\u2019s in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University , a Bachelor’s in English from the College of William and Mary , and a Library Media Specialist endorsement from the University of Virginia. Throughout her career as a teacher, division Director, and school administrator, she has built a strong track record of leading through learning. \u00a0 Mrs. Mason is a proud mom, wife and fan of the Today Show, Jeopardy and Carver Wolverine Athletics.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Ryan Sykes, Assistant Principal<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. Ryan Sykes a native of Chesapeake, Virginia. He graduated from Great Bridge High School in 2006 and earned a track scholarship to Virginia State University where he would earn his bachelors degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in special education. While at VSU, he became an Academic All-American during the 2006 – 2007 academic year as a member of the Cross Country team. After graduating from VSU, Mr. Sykes started his career teaching for Chesapeake Public Schools as a 6th grade inclusion math teacher in 2011. In 2012, Ryan began his masters degree at VSU while teaching inclusion math at Carter G. Woodson Middle School in Hopewell Virginia. In 2014, Ryan completed his master degree in Education Administration Supervision and earned his first administrative position in 2015 as the Dean of Students for Richmond City Public Schools. In 2016, Ryan Sykes received his first assistant principal position at Carter G. Woodson Middle school as the 7th grade administrator. In 2019, as the 6th grade assistant principal at CGW, Ryan Sykes was nationally recognized as a Virginia Milken Award recipient. From 2020 to 2023, Ryan served as an assistant principal at Patrick Copeland Elementary in Hopewell and head principal at Pleasants Lane Elementary in Petersburg. From 2023 – 2025, Dr. Sykes served as a special education teacher, dean of students and assistant principal at L.C. Bird High School. Ryan believes the key to success is persevering through challenges and taking advantage of opportunities, that will ultimately lead to purposeful driven life.
