Behavior, stress, anxiety, study skills, peer mediation, and attendance are frequent topics of discussion.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Group Counseling<\/strong><\/p><p>Small group counseling (typically 6-10 participants) is needs based. Small groups provide members the opportunity to share ideas and learn from each other. Group topics are chosen based upon student needs, and can change from year to year. Participation is voluntary and requires permission from a parent or guardian.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Classroom Lessons<\/strong><\/p><p>Many lessons are conducted throughout the school year that pertain to a variety of topics. Some of these topics include (but are not limited to) Career Exploration and Planning, Suicide Prevention and Awareness, Scheduling, and Graduation Requirements. Parents may elect in writing to have their student \u201copt out\u201d of any lesson.\u00a0<\/p><p>Beyond the services listed above, L.C. Bird School Counselors will meet with your student individually to establish a post graduation plan (Senior meeting) and scheduling. A variety of information sessions will be offered in the evenings (Back to School Night, College Fairs) to help families access resources for their students.\u00a0<\/p><p>School Counselors are not Licensed Professional Therapists or Private Counseling Providers and are unable to diagnose your student or offer consistent, ongoing therapy sessions. Please consult this <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1aaz_d9nWGyvLptjXDIbLvfecskMrBhnO\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">local list of resources<\/a> for needs beyond our scope of services.<\/p><p>Please note School Counselors are bound by confidentiality. Bird High School must use Parchment to request a transcript.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Seniors will be given a Transcript Release Form and a Parchment activation code from their School Counselor during their senior meeting in the fall.\u00a0 Please do not create an account until this information is shared by your School Counselor.<\/p><p>Alumni must create their account using the Parchment website. It\u2019s a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT\u00ae. It also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.<\/p><p>PSAT- Score Reports: Students who took the PSAT\u2019s in October will receive their PSAT Score report back in January. If they are absent the day they are released, can get their report from your school counselor.<\/p><p><strong>ACT \u2013<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/actstudent.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>\u00a0ActStudent.org<\/strong><\/a><\/p><p>An independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to measurement and research for those making educational and career transitions; administrates a widely taken college admissions test.<\/p><p><strong>AP Exams\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/collegeboard.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>CollegeBoard.org<\/strong><\/a><\/p><p>The Advanced Placement (AP) program, sponsored by the College Board and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), offers secondary school students the opportunity to participate in challenging college-level course work while still in high school. Students can receive credit, advanced placement, or both from thousands of colleges and universities that participate in the AP program. Each exam consists of multiple-choice and free-response sections. Most exams are three hours long and cover two semesters of college-level work; those that test one semester of work are generally two hours long. \u00a0Students at L.C.
