Hello Smith families, my name is Jana Kline and I am thrilled and honored to be your Principal! I am excited to begin my ninth year as Principal and tenth year as a Shark. I came to Alberta Smith as Assistant Principal in 2016, and prior to that I served as Assistant Principal at Harrowgate Elementary for four years. I began my career in administration as the Administrative Assistant at Evergreen Elementary after having taught fourth grade there. When my family moved to Chesterfield County, I taught fourth grade at Marguerite Christian Elementary. This will be my 23rd year in Chesterfield and my 33rd year in education. I absolutely love working with children and watching them grow and learn.<\/p>

I am a native of Tennessee and began my teaching career in grades 3 through 5. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from East Tennessee State University and my Masters and Education Specialist degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee. My husband\u2019s job transferred us to Chesapeake and while teaching there, I completed my Administration and Supervision Endorsement from the University of Virginia.<\/p>

I live in Midlothian with\u00a0my husband and daughter, who just started her nursing career. Our son is in college and both he and our daughter graduated from CCPS. My husband and I love watching Tennessee and SEC\u00a0sports, and I also enjoy reading, walking, and spending time with my family.<\/p>

I believe in classroom and school communities and forming personal relationships with students \u2013 which leads to establishing connections with families. I look forward to building relationships with our new families and continuing the great work here at Smith!<\/p>

Hello to all Alberta Smith students and families,<\/p>

My name is Ryan Shook and I am your Assistant Principal. I am incredibly excited to join this school community as the newest member of the administrative team at Alberta Smith Elementary School. This school year, I am joining Mrs. Kline as we lead and support the staff at Alberta Smith to achieve excellence.<\/p>

Here is a fun fact about me: I went to Alberta Smith for Kindergarten through 2nd grade! I am a Chesterfield native, graduating from Matoaca High School and then I went to college and received my Masters in Teaching from Virginia Commonwealth University. I spent my teaching career at Ettrick Elementary School, teaching PE for 8 years. For my administrative experience, I was the Dean of Students at Beulah Elementary after completing the Educational Leadership program at Longwood University.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

My wife Kaitlyn and I live in Chesterfield and we have three young boys, Charlie, Joey and Sullivan. In my free time, I love to cook, exercise, play golf, and spend time with my young family. I truly believe that anything is possible through hard work and determination. I am ready to start my new journey as a Shark!<\/p>
